IRCTC Refund Policy Explained
Indian Railways has specific refund rules which are based on certain specifics when you cancel your ticket:
- AC Classes (1A/2A/3A): ₹240-₹200 flat fee + 25%-50% of fare
- Sleeper/Chair Car: ₹120 flat fee + 25%-50% of fare
- Tatkal Tickets: No refund is available if you cancel confirm tatkal tickets. However, you can cancel waiting tatkal tickets.
- Premium Tatkal: Completely non-refundable
- After Chart Preparation: Only 50% refund through TDR filing

How accurate is this IRCTC refund calculator?
Our calculator follows the current refund rules of IRCTC exactly. The refund amount shown is quite similar to the amount deducted by IRCTC, sometimes there may be a slight difference due to GST amount.
What's the minimum refund amount for AC tickets?
For cancellations more than 48 hours before departure:
- AC First Class/Executive Class: Refund = Ticket Price - Rs. 240
- AC 2 Tier/First Class: Refund = Ticket Price - Rs. 200
- AC 3 Tier/AC Chair Car/AC 3 Economy: Refund = Ticket Price - Rs. 180
Can I get refund for Tatkal tickets?
If you have a confirmed Tatkal ticket, you will not get a refund. Refunds are only possible for Tatkal tickets on the waitlist or if the train is cancelled by the railways. For Tatkal tickets on the waitlist, you can get a refund if the train is cancelled by the railways.
How long for refund to reach my account?
IRCTC may refund your amount within 3 to 7 working days. For credit cards, 1 additional billing cycle may apply.
What if my train is late or cancelled?
A full refund is available if the train is delayed or cancelled by more than 3 hours. For these cases, use our calculator with the "After Departure" option.
